A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tano North Constituency, Mr. Yeboah Victor Mensah, has accused the area’s Member of Parliament,  Dr. Gideon Boako, of misconduct in the distribution of fertiliser meant for farmers ahead of the 2024 general elections.

In a statement released in Duayaw Nkwanta, Mr. Mensah described as “lies and fabrications” recent comments made by Dr. Boako concerning the fertiliser distribution exercise.

He alleged that the MP and some constituency executives diverted and sold about 70% of the fertiliser allocated to farmers, instead of ensuring it reached its intended beneficiaries.

“Dr. Boako and his constituency executives conspired to sell 70% of the fertiliser meant for farmers to stores in Sunyani and Techimantia.

This was done without regard for the welfare of the farmers, who were left to suffer,” Mr. Mensah claimed.

He further alleged that 5,000 bags of fertiliser were transported from the Kye Nimako warehouse in Susuanho in a truck driven by one Sarfo Prince, suggesting that the movement of the items was unauthorised and done for private gain.

Mr. Mensah accused Dr. Boako of being hypocritical, saying it was unjust for him to accuse others of wrongdoing when he himself had not been transparent in handling constituency resources.

He called on the MP to account to party executives and farmers for the alleged diversion.

Beyond the fertiliser issue, Mr. Mensah also criticised Dr. Boako for what he described as a lack of attention to development projects in the constituency.

He cited several abandoned roads, including the Bomaa town roads, Bomaa–Duayaw Nkwanta road, Bomaa–Yamfo road, and Bomaa–Tepa road, as well as the Yamfo AstroTurf project, which he said remains incomplete.

Touching on internal party matters, Mr. Mensah urged NPP members to prioritise unity and integrity, warning that “politics built on lies and selfishness” would continue to hurt the party’s chances in future elections.

He also questioned the effectiveness of the party’s 2024 presidential campaign led by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, arguing that it lacked a strong message beyond digitisation and slogans.

According to him, the NPP’s defeat in 2024 should serve as a wake-up call for renewal and new leadership within the party.

“The polling station executives need a unifier and a young entrepreneur with vision for the youth and the party's grassroots. That is the Joshua of NPP who will save us from the humiliating defeat we suffered in 2024,” he said.

As of now, Dr. Gideon Boako has not publicly responded to the allegations.
