Tensions erupt in Ashaiman over ministerial appointment snub

Tensions flared in Ashaiman as angry residents vandalized the office of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency chairman in protest against President John Mahama's failure to appoint their Member of Parliament, Ernest Norgbey, to a ministerial position.
Earlier today, aggrieved constituents had planned to block the Tema Motorway in a mass demonstration.
However, swift intervention by the Constituency Chairman and party executives averted the protest.
Frustrated by the outcome, demonstrators stormed the party chairman’s office, destroying the gates and burning tyres within the premises to express their anger.
The protesters argue that Ashaiman is the second-highest vote contributor to the NDC’s victory and has remained a stronghold of the party for decades.
They believe their loyalty deserves recognition through a ministerial appointment.
Some enraged party members and residents voiced their frustrations, emphasizing the need for greater representation at the national level.
Meanwhile, Godwin Tsimesi, Presiding Member of the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, has called for calm, urging the President to address the grievances, as he insists that Ashaiman deserves better.
