UE/R: Binduri MP urges calm after arson attack on NPP constituency chairman's vehicle

The Member of Parliament for Binduri in the Upper East Region, Abdulai Abanga, has called for calm among party members and supporters following an arson attack on the vehicle of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) constituency chairman, Mr. Samuel Ayaago.
The attack occurred on Monday night at Mr. Ayaago’s residence in Atuba, Binduri District.
Eyewitnesses reported that between 9:00 pm and 10:00 pm, three masked men on two motorbikes arrived at the scene.
The attackers fired gunshots at the front of the chairman’s house before dousing his Nissan pickup truck, with registration number GX 4164 - 17, with a liquid believed to be petrol and setting it ablaze. The vehicle was completely destroyed.
In an interview with Class FM’s Upper East Correspondent, Moses Apiah, Mr. Abanga condemned the attack, attributing it to attempts by political opponents to intimidate and disrupt their campaign efforts.
“Though the perpetrators remain unidentified, it is evident that these actions are meant to undermine our campaign and scare us from engaging in a decent and constructive electoral process,” Mr. Abanga said.
He further suggested that the perpetrators are resorting to such tactics because they lack substantive achievements to campaign on.
Mr. Abanga emphasised the need for a peaceful and respectful campaign environment, free from violence and intimidation.
The MP urged the security agencies to intensify their efforts in the Binduri District, calling for increased presence and a thorough investigation into the incident.
He stressed the importance of bringing those responsible to justice to prevent further disruptions and ensure the safety of all residents.
