We’ll focus on stabilising Cedi, reducing inflation – Mahama

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has pledged to tackle Ghana’s economic challenges head-on, with a commitment to prioritising economic growth, stabilising the cedi, and reducing inflation once he assumes office.
Speaking at his residence during a courtesy visit by the Algerian Ambassador to Ghana, Mourad Louhaidia, on Thursday, 12 December, Mr. Mahama emphasised the need for decisive action to restore the country’s economic stability.
“We are looking to focus on bringing Ghana back up in terms of economic growth, stabilising the currency, and bringing down inflation.
“And this is the time Ghana needs to work even closer with its partners, including China,” the President-elect explained.
He underscored the significance of strengthening international cooperation, particularly with China, to address critical issues and foster technical and economic development.
“So as early as possible, once we get the transition out of the way, it is our hope that we will be able to constitute a delegation to begin engaging with China on the issues of our technical cooperation,” Mr. added.
He expressed confidence that his administration’s policies and international engagements would provide relief to citizens impacted by Ghana’s economic struggles.
Ambassador Louhaidia congratulated Mahama on his electoral victory and assured him of Algeria’s readiness to enhance bilateral relations for mutual benefit.
