Gov't scaling up child online protection – Ursula
The Minister of Communication, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has said efforts are being made by the ministry to revise the national child online protection framework to address the challenges facing children's online and digital service use.
According to her, the revision is part of the government's agenda to ensure responsible use of the internet and ICT among children.
Speaking to Class91.3FM's Jerry Akornor after the climax of the 2019 National Security Awareness month programme in Accra, Mrs Owusu-Ekuful said Ghana intends to host the African Regional Forum on child protection together with the International Telecommunication Union, as part of the Cybersecurity Awareness month.
The Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Major General Francis Ofori, challenged cybersecurity experts in Ghana to develop secure cyber solutions to fight cyber threats.
According to him, recent global cybersecurity breaches require that citizens and government officials are equipped with the relevant knowledge on the protection of the cybersecurity space.
Contributing to the debate, Major General Ofori said a post-graduate programme with focus on cybersecurity has been introduced within the KAIPTC to scale up knowledge acquisition on cyber threats issues.
Meanwhile, National Cyber Security Advisor of National Cyber Security Centre, Dr Albert Antwi-Bosiako called for the establishment of sustainable financing mechanisms to fund cybersecurity initiatives. He wants CSOs to lead advocacy on alternative ways to get funding of cyber security projects whilst government implement Communication Service Tax.
European Union Ambassador to Ghana Mrs Diana Accouncia said digitisation and technological innovations are crucial to building the Ghanaian economy towards Ghana Beyond Aid Agenda.
She, however, believes recent developments in Europe and US show that cyber-attack has the tendency of shaking the strongholds of political systems.
