President Mahama launches ambitious one million coders programme to drive digital transformation
President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled the One Million Coders Programme, hailing it as a transformative step toward Ghana’s emergence as a digital powerhouse and a bold signal of the country's ambition to lead on the global tech stage.
Launching the initiative on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, President Mahama emphasised its strategic value in shaping Ghana’s future.
The programme aims to train one million Ghanaians in essential digital and coding skills over the next few years.
“We are not just launching a programme—we are laying the foundation for a blue economy,” the President declared.
“We are sending a clear message to the world: Ghana is ready to lead in the digital age.”
He further noted that the initiative is more than a fulfilled campaign promise; it forms a cornerstone of the government’s Reset Ghana Agenda, a national vision focused on inclusive and innovation-led development.
Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Sam Nartey George, also spoke at the event, highlighting the programme’s role in equipping citizens with future-ready skills.
“We must harness science, innovation, and technology—not as buzzwords, but as practical tools for inclusive growth.
The One Million Coders Programme is designed precisely to deliver that,” he said.
The programme is expected to empower youth, create employment opportunities, and build a robust digital economy that is globally competitive.
