AFCON 2025 qualifiers: NSA warns against display of political paraphernalia at Ghana-Sudan clash

The National Sports Authority (NSA) has cautioned football fans against displaying political or pressure group paraphernalia during the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier between Ghana and Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The NSA's warning follows the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) regulations, which prohibit political messages at football matches.
Reports have emerged that some individuals, particularly from recent anti-galamsey protests, plan to use the high-profile match to raise awareness about the environmental damage caused by illegal mining, especially the destruction of water bodies.
In response, the NSA has issued a statement, warning that any political displays or protest materials will lead to immediate action by security personnel.
"Any individual or group of persons who openly displays any political or pressure group paraphernalia, apparel, or placards at the Accra Sports Stadium will be apprehended by the security apparatus," the NSA’s statement read.
The authority further urged all attendees to adhere to matchday regulations to avoid arrest or sanctions.
This AFCON qualifier is crucial for the Black Stars as they face Sudan’s Falcons of Jediane, hoping to revive their campaign after a disappointing start last month.
