Black Princesses bounced from U-20 Women’s World Cup despite final win

The Black Princesses' journey in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup came to a premature end, despite their impressive 3-1 victory over New Zealand in their last group match.
Ghana’s elimination was effectively decided before their final game, as Argentina’s earlier win secured their place in the knockout stages and closed the door on Ghana’s hopes.
In a spirited performance, Salamatu Abdulai scored twice and Tracy Twum added another, leading Ghana to a 3-1 triumph over New Zealand.
However, the win was not enough to secure a spot in the next round.
Ghana's progression depended on securing one of the four best third-place spots, which required Costa Rica to lose to Argentina.
Argentina's victory, however, dashed Ghana's chances of advancing, despite their strong finish.
The Black Princesses' campaign had already suffered setbacks with losses to Austria and Japan, and the final win was insufficient to alter their fate.
The result marks another missed opportunity for Ghana to advance beyond the group stage for the first time in seven attempts since 2012.
With Mexico, Canada, and South Korea all finishing with four points, Argentina’s success left Ghana without a viable path forward, highlighting the challenge of advancing in a competitive group stage.
