Black Queens land in UAE for Pink Ladies Cup as WAFCON preparations gather pace
Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, have arrived in the United Arab Emirates ahead of their participation in the Pink Ladies Cup, a key preparatory tournament designed to sharpen the squad for upcoming continental action.
The team touched down in the early hours of Wednesday, turning their focus fully to fine-tuning tactics and fitness levels as they build momentum toward the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which will be staged in Morocco next month.
Head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren is expected to treat the four-nation competition as a critical evaluation ground, using the matches to test combinations, integrate fresh talent, and assess squad depth. The tournament presents Ghana with competitive fixtures against Hong Kong, Russia, and Tanzania.
Bjorkegren recently unveiled his squad list, introducing six new faces as part of ongoing efforts to reshape the team ahead of the continental championship. The additions signal a blend of experimentation and long-term planning as the technical team searches for the right balance of youth and experience.
Ghana will kick off their Pink Ladies Cup campaign against Hong Kong on February 28, before taking on Russia on March 3. Their final group fixture comes against Tanzania on March 6.
After the tournament, the Black Queens are scheduled for one last tune-up match against Ivory Coast, offering a final opportunity to polish their preparations before the WAFCON challenge begins.
For the Queens, the UAE assignment represents more than just a series of friendlies — it is a vital step in rebuilding confidence and cohesion as they aim to make a strong impression on the continental stage.
