Black Satellites set for final Semper Fi test ahead of WAFU B U-20 championship
Ghana's Black Satellites will take on Division One League side Semper Fi in their final preparatory match on Thursday, July 23, as they step up preparations for the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship.
The friendly, scheduled at 2 PM at the Accra Sports Stadium, will be the team's last outing before departing for Yamoussoukro, Côte d'Ivoire, where the regional tournament will be staged.
Head coach Maxwell Konadu is expected to use the match to assess his squad one final time as he fine-tunes his tactics and evaluates player combinations ahead of naming his final team for the competition.
The Black Satellites have been in camp for several weeks, intensifying preparations for the tournament.
On Wednesday, the team held another rigorous training session at the University of Ghana Stadium Annex B with the technical team focusing on tactical organisation and match fitness.
The clash against Semper Fi is seen as a crucial part of Ghana's build-up, offering the coaching staff an opportunity to gauge the players' readiness in a competitive environment before the team leaves for Côte d'Ivoire.
Ghana faces a stern challenge at the WAFU B U-20 Championship after being drawn in Group B alongside Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and Togo; a pool widely regarded as one of the toughest in the tournament.
The regional competition carries added importance with places at the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations up for grabs.
Ghana, who will host the continental championship, will be aiming to build momentum and make a strong statement in Côte d'Ivoire.
With preparations entering the final stretch, Thursday's friendly could play a decisive role in shaping the squad that will carry Ghana's hopes at the regional championship.
