Spain forward Nico Williams shared an emotional moment with his mother after helping Spain win the 2026 FIFA World Cup, handing his winner’s medal to her in celebration of her support throughout his journey.

After Spain’s 1-0 extra-time victory over defending champions Argentina in the final at the New York New Jersey Stadium, Williams walked towards the stands and presented the medal to his mother.

His mother, who wore the red Spanish jersey, proudly accepted the medal, shook her son’s hand and wore it as she celebrated with family. His father, dressed in a white jersey bearing the 17 number, stood beside her as they applauded their son.

The gesture highlighted the family’s journey, with Nico Williams and his older brother Iñaki Williams representing different nations at the international level.

While Nico played a key role in Spain’s World Cup success, Iñaki Williams featured for Ghana at the tournament. The Black Stars exited after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the knockout stage following a determined Group L campaign.

Spain secured their second FIFA World Cup title after defeating Argentina in a tightly contested final. The match remained goalless after 90 minutes before Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute, with Nico Williams providing the assist.

Spain dominated large portions of the game, creating several chances and having goals ruled out before eventually finding the breakthrough in extra time. They also finished the tournament having conceded just one goal in eight games.

The final drew 80,663 spectators at the stadium, with United States President Donald Trump, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Pharrell Williams and Trevor Noah among those in attendance.

The match also featured the first FIFA World Cup halftime show, headlined by BTS, Justin Bieber, Shakira and Burna Boy.
