GFA, MoE meet over strengthening partnership between sports and education
President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has discussed key areas of collaboration between the GFA and the Ministry of Education, to advance the development of football and education in Ghana.
The discussion took place on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, when Mr Simeon-Okraku paid a courtesy call on Minister of Education Haruna Iddrisu at his office in Accra.
GFA Executive Council Members Samuel Aboabire and Gideon Fosu, and GFA Technical Director Professor Joseph Kwame Mintah, accompanied the GFA president.
The discussions centered on the value of a synergetic relationship between education and football, considering how football could be used to enhance and promote youth development, discipline and talent discovery.
Mr Simeon-Okraku noted GFA’s readiness to collaborate with the education ministry on policies and programmes to enhance physical education and football infrastructure development in schools nationwide.
He cited the Catch Them Young Refereeing Programme and the School Football Development Project, as GFA efforts to align its development strategy with the national education system.
On his part, Mr Iddrisu assured GFA of his ministry's readiness to collaborate for the holistic development of young football talents through academic training and football excellence.
He commended GFA and its leadership for proving their commitment to developing football at all levels, and for acknowledging the important role education played in shaping masterful footballers.
GFA President Simeon-Okraku aims to foster strong institutional partnerships for the benefit of the local sporting ecosystem and youth development.
