GFA bribery allegations: Prince Osei Owusu rejects social media claims over Black Stars exclusion
Ghana international Prince Osei Owusu has dismissed claims circulating on social media that he was dropped from the Black Stars after refusing to give part of his appearance fees and bonuses to officials of the Ghana Football Association.
The allegations originated from a viral video in which a woman, claiming to be the striker's aunt, alleged that Owusu was asked to surrender 70 per cent of his appearance fee and winning bonus. She further claimed he was excluded from the national team after refusing.
However, according to JoySports, sources close to the CF Montréal forward have described the claims as false.
The sources said Owusu does not know the woman in the video and has no connection with her. They also stated that he has completely distanced himself from both the woman and the allegations she made.
His representatives further denied that any such incident had occurred and said the player has never authorised anyone to speak on his behalf regarding the Black Stars or the Ghana Football Association.
They maintained that Owusu remains committed to representing Ghana whenever he is selected and has never publicly accused the Football Association of wrongdoing over financial matters.
The 29-year-old received his first Black Stars call-up for the Kirin Cup in 2025 and has since remained part of the national team.
He heads into the 2026 FIFA World Cup after an impressive season with CF Montréal, scoring nine goals and providing six assists in 15 Major League Soccer matches. His performances also earned him the club's Player of the Month award.
The allegations have generated discussion on social media, but JoySports reports that there is no evidence to support the claims. The Ghana Football Association had not commented on the matter at the time of publication.
