Government ends World Cup group-stage ticket support scheme
The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has announced the conclusion of the Government of Ghana's World Cup group-stage ticket support scheme following the Black Stars' three group-stage matches.
In a statement dated 29 June 2026, the ministry said the scheme, which was intended for Ghanaian supporters in Canada, the United States and across the world, has now ended.
According to the ministry, government procured a limited number of tickets for Ghana's three group-stage matches as part of a coordinated national support intervention. It stressed that the tickets were not for commercial sale but were allocated to selected Ghanaian supporters, recognised supporter groups, sponsors, stakeholders and diaspora community structures.
The ministry disclosed that ticket allocations under the scheme were as follows:
- Ghana vs Panama – 948 tickets
- Ghana vs England – 1,000 tickets
- Ghana vs Croatia – 974 tickets
It explained that the distribution process was coordinated through Ghana's missions in Canada and the United States, recognised Ghanaian associations, supporter groups, sponsors and stakeholder channels.
As part of the process, missions submitted limited lists from Ghanaian communities after consultations with established and recognised associations and community groups. The tickets were then issued electronically through FIFA's mobile ticketing system to approved recipients, either directly to individuals or to approved group leaders.
The ministry acknowledged concerns from Ghanaians who were unable to obtain tickets, stating that demand was significantly higher than the number of tickets procured.
It further confirmed that the government's ticket allocation covered only Ghana's group-stage matches and that there is currently no government-supported ticket arrangement for any subsequent stage of the tournament.
Supporters wishing to attend any future Black Stars matches have been advised to purchase tickets directly through FIFA's official ticketing platform or through accredited and authorised ticketing agencies.
The ministry also expressed appreciation to Ghana's missions in Canada and the United States, recognised associations, supporter groups and stakeholders for their support in coordinating the process.
It announced that, in line with its commitment to transparency and accountability, the list of individuals, groups and institutions that received tickets under the scheme will be published at a later date once the appropriate publication format has been agreed.
The ministry thanked Ghanaians and supporters across the world for their continued support of the Black Stars and encouraged them to continue backing the national team with unity, discipline and national pride.
