Jerry Ahmed Shaib re-elected President of Ghana Weightlifting Federation

Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe Constituency in the Greater Accra Region,Mr. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has been re-elected as President of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) after securing a resounding 100% of the valid votes cast during the Federation’s electoral congress held virtually on Friday, May 9, 2025.
His sweeping victory over challenger Mr. Michael Nii Yarboi Annan demonstrates the deep confidence and trust delegates have in his leadership.
Mr. Shaib will now serve another four-year term, continuing his efforts to advance weightlifting in Ghana.
In other key results, Mr. Kenneth Odeng Adade, formerly the Federation’s Deputy Secretary-General, was elected as Secretary-General after defeating Ms. Peggy Crabbe.
The position of Treasurer went to Madam Elizabeth Owusu Agyapong, who was elevated from her previous role as Deputy Treasurer following a strong endorsement from delegates.
Three additional members were elected to the Federation’s governing board: Dr. Christopher Akwesi Adomako, Prof. Jonathan Quartey, and Mr. Benjamin Addy.
The congress was monitored by prominent observers, including Dr. Ibrahim Abdul, President of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation and Board Member of the Weightlifting Federation of Africa.
Dr. Abdul commended the GWF for conducting a transparent and peaceful election and encouraged the new leadership to prioritise unity and grassroots development.
Dr. Kyle Calhoum Pierce, a delegate from the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), expressed enthusiasm about the outcome of the elections and pledged his support to the new board, particularly in expanding the sport’s reach in schools across the country.
Representing the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), 3rd Vice President Mr. Ernest Danso praised the GWF for its organisation and urged the incoming board to work collaboratively with all stakeholders.
He noted that weightlifting continues to be a key contributor to Ghana’s medal prospects in international competitions.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Jerry Ahmed Shaib extended heartfelt gratitude to the Elections Committee, chaired by Naa Odofoley Nortey and supported by Mr. Muniru Kassim Mohammed, Secretary-General of the GOC, for their professionalism and dedication.
He congratulated all elected members and reaffirmed his commitment to the sport’s growth, inviting all stakeholders to unite ahead of Ghana’s hosting of the 2025 African Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in August.
