The Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, Julius Debrah, has called on the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) and the wider media fraternity to play an active role in promoting the government’s 24-Hour Economy initiative.

Speaking on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the 75th anniversary cake-cutting ceremony of the Daily Graphic in Accra, Mr. Debrah described the initiative as a transformative pathway to higher productivity, increased GDP, and job creation.

“The concept of a 24-Hour Economy makes sense. All it means is that we need to devise means and systems to increase productivity,” he stated, urging the media to prepare citizens for the shift and to set aside partisan politics in assessing the policy.

He assured GCGL management that concerns raised about the lack of direct state support would be relayed to the President, while commending the company for its resilience and contribution to Ghana’s democratic journey.

“Graphic is a true Ghanaian institution whose legacy is tied to the very history of our nation,” Mr. Debrah said, adding that its 75-year record of accuracy and integrity was a lesson for all media houses.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to press freedom, he pledged continued efforts to safeguard journalists, strengthen media capacity, and support traditional outlets in adapting to the digital era.

Mr. Debrah concluded by congratulating the board, management, and staff of GCGL for “75 years of truth and service to the nation,” and urged the media to remain reliable partners in Ghana’s development.
