Gov't announces changes to data bundle charges effective July 1
The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Mr Samuel Nartey George (MP), has announced upcoming adjustments to data bundle offerings by Ghana’s leading telecommunications providers, effective July 1, 2025.
The announcement was made at a press briefing held at the Ministry’s Complex in Accra, following comprehensive consultations with the chief executives of AirtelTigo, Telecel Ghana Limited, and Scancom Ghana Limited (MTN Ghana).
The move, according to the Minister, is aimed at delivering greater value to consumers while also addressing operational concerns within the telecom industry.
Mr. Sam George revealed that the changes are part of a broader strategy to ensure fairness, sustainability, and improved service delivery in the telecom sector.
Among the key measures, MTN Ghana—designated as a Significant Market Power (SMP) operator, will implement a 15% increase in the prices of all existing data bundles.
“These adjustments reflect a careful balance between consumer protection and the financial viability of telecom operations,” the Minister stated.
“Our goal is to create a level playing field while encouraging innovation and affordability.”
He added that the Ministry would continue to monitor market responses and maintain open dialogue with stakeholders to ensure that the changes ultimately benefit the Ghanaian public.
Further details on bundle changes for AirtelTigo and Telecel are expected to be outlined in the coming days.
