The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has reiterated the importance of keeping the Ghana cedi clean at all times and urged Ghanaians to “know the cedi.”

The Governor of the central bank, Dr Ernest Addison, made the comment at the introduction of new GHS100 and GHS200 notes at a press conference in Accra on Friday, 29 November 2019.

The BoG also introduced GHS2 coin.

The Governor encouraged Ghanaians to study the new denominations carefully in order to detect fake currency notes.

“I entreat every Ghanaian to study these new denominations carefully and be familiar with the main features to facilitate the detection of fake currency notes.”

He also stressed the importance of proper handling of the country’s banknotes and urged Ghanaians to strive to keep the notes clean in line with the BoG’s clean note policy.

"The need to properly handle our banknotes is still of significant importance and we must strive to keep them clean at all times in line with the bank’s Clean Note Policy. In other words, ‘know the cedi and keep it clean',” Dr Addison said.
