MMDAs, MDAs, public universities to school on relevance of internal audit

The Internal Audit Unit of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) will commence an educational initiative on Monday, May 20, 2024, aimed at Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), and public university Vice Chancellors. 

The focus will be on the importance and relevance of internal audits.

Mr. Isaac Adjin Bonney, Chief Internal Auditor of MoFA, emphasized the critical role internal audits play in helping organizations achieve their goals by providing independent and objective assurance on the effectiveness of governance, risk management, and control processes.

In an interview with Classfmonline.com ahead of the awareness programme, Mr. Bonney outlined the objectives of the Ministry's International Internal Audit Awareness Month, scheduled from May 20 to May 26, 2024. 

The initiative aims to educate organizations about the significance of internal audits and how they can enhance efficiency.

The awareness month, themed "Beyond Boundaries: Adding Value to MoFA," will include a series of events:

Day 1 (20th May):

Display of banners and pictures of Internal Auditors with relevant quotes on social media.

Day 2 (21st May):

A session from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Ministry's Conference Room featuring a resource person from the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). 

This session will highlight the importance of professional certification in Internal Auditing and membership with IIA Ghana and Global.

Day 3 (22nd May):

Distribution of Internal Audit paraphernalia to Heads of Directorates, Audit Committee Members, and other ministry staff.

Day 4 (23rd May):

A virtual symposium where Heads from the Directorates will discuss the impact of Internal Audit on achieving their organizational objectives.

Day 5 (24th May):

A Lunch-and-Learn session where Internal Auditors will have lunch with other MoFA staff to educate them about the role of Internal Auditors and dispel misconceptions about internal audit.

Day 6 (25th May):

Participation in a health walk and games organized by ICAG at the Armed Forces Sports Complex, Burma Camp.

Mr. Bonney highlighted that this comprehensive programme is designed to underscore the value internal audits bring to organizations, ensuring they can operate more efficiently and effectively.
