Mahama unveils ‘Feed Ghana Programme’ to transform agriculture and boost economic resilience

President John Dramani Mahama has officially launched the Feed Ghana Programme, positioning it as a cornerstone of his broader vision to transform Ghana’s agricultural sector and build economic resilience.
The launch event, held on Saturday, April 12, in Techiman, marked the unveiling of what Mr. Mahama described as a bold, forward-looking initiative designed to place agriculture at the heart of national development.
“Mr. Chairman, the time has come for bold and decisive actions. We must no longer treat agriculture as an afterthought. Agriculture must be placed at the center of our national economic transformation,” he stated.
President Mahama revealed that the Feed Ghana Programme is the foundational pillar of a larger agenda known as the Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA). This comprehensive strategy aims to modernize and expand the agricultural sector to create employment opportunities, reduce food inflation, and secure long-term food sustainability.
Designed as an umbrella framework, the Feed Ghana Programme will coordinate all agricultural projects and interventions. Key focus areas include scaling up food production, promoting modern farming techniques, enhancing agricultural infrastructure, and establishing agro-industrial zones across the country.
The former President also highlighted the impact of global shifts triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, citing the rise in protectionism and escalating trade tensions as catalysts for a renewed focus on national food security.
“Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the world has shifted. Global protectionism is rising. Tariff wars are being waged among the world powers, and new trade tensions are emerging between nations,” he noted.
Emphasizing the urgency and relevance of the initiative, Mr. Mahama framed the Feed Ghana Programme as a strategic investment in Ghana’s agricultural future.
In conclusion, he said “It represents a bold commitment to put our resources where our ambitions lies”
