Scores of doughnut sellers known in Ghanaian parlance as ‘bofrot’ have bemoaned the cost of flour and oil, the main ingredients for the preparation of the snack.

According to the ‘bofrot’ sellers, the price of flour among others has skyrocketed.

The 'bofrot' sellers at Oforikrom in the Kumasi metropolis of the Ashanti Region last Wednesday, October 26, 2022 took to the streets to register their displeasure about the rising cost of the commodity for preparing the doughnut.

Narrating their ordeal on Accra 100.5 FM’s 6 a.m. news on Thursday 27, 2022, they said a 'kufour-gallon' of oil that used to sell at GHS300 is now being sold at GHS1000.

They said while the cost of oil has drastically gone up, the cost of flour has also correspondently gone up.

They argued that some members who have the cash to purchase the oil cannot find some on the market and stressed that there is a scarcity of oil on the market.

They further noted that the high cost of the commodities for preparing the snack is making them run out of business in recent times.

According to them, because of this, some 'bofrot' sellers are compelled to sell a ball of 'bofrot' for GHS5 instead of the usual GHS2.

They said those who are still selling at GHS 2 have drastically reduced the size of the ball.

They appealed to the government to do something about the situation especially the cost of the 'kufour-gallon' of oil.
