PURC's year of strategic impact gets results in the Bono East Region
In its four months of operation, the Bono East Regional Office of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has helped to recover an amount of Ghs123,927.86 for the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo).
The customer, Bui Sugar Limited at Banda benefited from a credit adjustment to the tune of Ghs35,643.10.
This is in line with the Commission’s theme for the year 2024, which is “a year of strategic impact”.
The recovered and credit adjustment amount resulted from an undercharge which occurred for several months in 2023 due to some under-readings of the four (4) meters at the factory.
The Regional Office as part of the complaint management procedure of the Commission, conducted investigations into the complaint and identified under readings on the part of the service provider.
The issue was resolved satisfactorily at its first settlement meeting.
Both parties were satisfied after the meeting and applauded the regional office for its timely intervention, negotiation skills, experience and professionalism in handling the complaint to a satisfactory resolution.
This office was established as part of the Commission’s efforts to decentralize its operations to stakeholders within the catchment area, protect stakeholder interests, and ensure the delivery of high-quality services by service providers.
Located in Techiman, the regional capital of the Bono East Region, the office is the eleventh regional office of the Commission and has been in operation since March 1, 2024.
It is also the first office to be in opened by the Commission in the newly created six administrative regions of the country.
The office has carried out several activities including complaint management, public education and visits to announce its presence and to increase visibility.
Some of these activities include street walks, leaflet distribution, education for associations and groups and mass media education
