Registrar of Companies urges Ghanaians to embrace business registration

The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) is marking its annual ORC Week with a call to action for entrepreneurs to prioritise business registration as a key driver of Ghana’s economic development.
Speaking during the celebrations, Yayra Adzo Banini, Director of Business Registration and Licences at ORC, highlighted the institution’s milestones and reiterated its mandate to regulate, register, and educate the public on business operations.
She explained that although the ORC was formally established in 2022, it remains a “newborn institution” with a renewed focus on public education about the benefits of registering businesses.
“Business registration gives a company legal identity and announces its existence to the world.
It ensures that businesses are recognised in the country’s economic activities and provides the foundation for their protection and growth,” she noted.
Ms. Banini stressed that no economy can fully thrive without a strong culture of business registration, urging all entrepreneurs—whether in services or manufacturing—to formalise their operations.
The ORC Week celebration serves as a platform to sensitise the public on proper registration, not only protecting businesses but also strengthening Ghana’s economic base by ensuring inclusivity in national development.
She concluded by encouraging Ghanaians to embrace registration as a patriotic and economic duty, saying it is vital for the country’s long-term progress.
