V/R: Central Tongu MoFA supports Miyingor Cassava processing group
In a significant boost to women's empowerment and agricultural development, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), Central Tongu District in the Volta Region, with support from the Canadian Government under the Modernizing Agriculture in Ghana (MAG) programme, has donated a tricycle to the Miyingor Cassava Farming and Processing Women's Group at Mafi Kpedzeglo.
The donation, made on August 13, 2024, aims to enhance the group's operational efficiency and address transportation challenges.
Mr Thomas Moore Zonyrah, the District Chief Executive(DCE) for the Central Tongu District, presented the tricycle on behalf of MoFA, highlighting the MAG programme's commitment to supporting Farmer-Based Organizations (FBOs) in the district.
The DCE encouraged the group to use the tricycle for its intended purpose, maintain the equipment, and foster unity amongst themselves.
The Miyingor Farming and Processing Group formalized in 2017, has been a beneficiary of the MAG programme since 2021, receiving improved Gari processing equipment.
The group adds value to Cassava by processing it into various flavoured Gari products, including Coconut, Potato, Moringa and Palm oil flavours, for market sale.
Madam Theresa Nukpetsi Aformanor, the group President, expressed gratitude for the support, citing significant benefits from the MAG programme.
The group has requested additional support, including a tractor, to expand their Cassava farms to meet growing market demands.
This initiative demonstrates the government's dedication to empowering women in agriculture and promoting sustainable agricultural development in Ghana.
