Copyright infringement: Sarkodie empathises, shows support for Kirani Ayat
Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has expressed support for Kirani Ayat concerning reported copyright infringement having to do with his award-winning song titled ‘Guda’.
Born Michael Owusu Addo, the rapper also bemoaned the lack of support given to the local creative arts industry.
“We (creatives) do a lot to put our country out there, attracting a lot of tourists and investors that translates to money to help nation building yet that’s one sector with no support,” Sarkodie tweeted.
“I feel [for] my brother [Kirani Ayat] and support him especially if he actually reached out and didn’t get help,” he concluded.
Yesterday, Tuesday, 27 September, 2022, Kirani Ayat, reacting to a tweet by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo admonished the Ghanaian leader for using excerpts of his ‘Guda’ music video without his consent.
Mr Akufo-Addo, commemorating World Tourism Day, had tweeted a video montage displaying the various aspects of Ghana’s people, fauna and flora, monuments, culture, etc. and about 24 seconds into the 2-minute video, footage of Ayat’s ‘Guda’ music video had shown.
Today, 28 September, 2022, citing the British Broadcasting Corporation's (BBC) reportage of President Akufo-Addo’s alleged copyright infringement, rapper Sarkodie made the aforementioned statements.
