If I ever marry again, it will be to my ex-husband — Nana Ama McBrown
Nana Ama McBrown has said that if she ever gets married again, it would only be to her ex-husband, Maxwell Mensah, and no one else.
While she noted that she is open to having children with another man, she stressed that it would not go beyond that.
McBrown made the disclosure in an interview with Cookie Tee on TV3 on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
According to the film and television star, she endured extremely difficult moments over a two-year period when several important aspects of her life, including her marriage, health and work, fell apart.
She revealed has maintained a cordial relationship with her in-laws who were opposed to the divorce.
She described her ex-husband as a responsible man, emphasising that she harbours no ill-feelings towards him.
"There is no hatred here. I am an understanding person. If you understand me, you can understand the world. It would be at loggerheads with a man who has helped me and given me a child. He pays his child's school fees, he does what we want, he comes to see his child, we go to the house, his family is my family. Did you not see my go to my in-law's shop to get laces? Auntie Julie at Makola market. I can get laces whenever I want, left and right. She is still my mother," she explained.
McBrown said she was only interested in remarrying Maxwell, for whom she still has strong feelings, adding that she is no longer interested in marriage and its elaborate ceremonies.
"We can marry again. If I will ever get married again, it would have to be him. Maybe he would make a good case, and I will consider it. If not, I'm not interested in going to wear a kente gown again for a marriage ceremony with anyone else," she elaborated.
She further praised her ex-husband, describing him as a good man who never abused her.
"He is a correct guy. I still have feelings for him but I was tired of the marriage, and so I had to exit," McBrown explained.
She said she decided to speak openly about the deeply personal matter because she wanted to demonstrate that divorces do not always have to be bitter or end in prolonged legal battles.
"I cannot litigate a man I have a child with, and Maxwell has never abused me before," she emphasised.
McBrown also disclosed that the only time they fought during their 12-year marriage was while they were in Brazil for the FIFA World Cup, an issue she said was later resolved with apologies and an intimate moment together in the bathroom.
"He is a gentleman. But marriage is not only what you see," she stressed.
Word to Women
The influential television personality used the opportunity to advise women to work hard and attain financial security, so their partner’s support would be complementary rather than their sole means of livelihood.
She said she did not want to remain in a marriage while grieving or cause grief to her partner to the point of death, nor did she want to endure avoidable abuse.
McBrown revealed that both the marriage and its eventual separation were conducted quietly under customary law.
Despite the divorce, she admitted that she still wears her wedding ring, holding on to the hope of reconciliation.
"Have you seen I still wear my ring? He said I should wear it because we may get back. Because I am not looking for anyone else," McBrown explained.
