'Dancehall King' clash: Take Shatta Wale v Stonebwoy to smaller venue to avoid fan violence – Prince Benjamin
Prince Benjamin (PB) has asserted should it occur, the Shatta Wale vs. Stonebwoy Dancehall King clash ought to happen at a smaller location rather than the Accra Sports Stadium.
On Saturday, August 31, 2024, the host of Accra 100.5 FM's Entertainment Capital made this statement.
"I'm not claiming that will happen but there's a chance that an event of this magnitude may turn chaotic. It will be a battle between their followers rather than between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy,” PB cautioned.
Thus, he suggested moving the event to the Bukom Boxing Arena or another location of a like kind.
The radio DJ explained: “It's a more private and compact space. There wouldn't be as many police officers required at that location as there would be at the stadium.”
The Class Media Group (CMG) on-air personality proposed that the music competition between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy "should be marketed as a VIP or VVIP event" and made available for public viewing on both traditional and new media. He emphasised by doing this, the likelihood of misunderstandings and confrontations would be effectively reduced by keeping hooligans and troublemakers away.
The entertainment pundit emphasised once more the final quarter of 2024 would be dominated by intense political campaigns, cautioning holding a musical duel between two rival artists and their fervent supporters could raise the nation's temperature instead of calming things down.
"The entertainment value of such a programme" was something Prince Benjamin expressed appreciation for.
However, even though "Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy can sign a bond of good behavior," he pointed out "it would be difficult to control something untoward between their fans at the sports stadium because the venue is too big."
“Even when the elections are over, they ought to bring the event to the Bukom Boxing Arena,” he maintained.
At the Ohene Gyan/Accra Sports Stadium in Accra, Shatta Wale has challenged his bitter rival Stonebwoy to a hit-versus-hit duel for the Dancehall King title. He has given Ghana's leaders his word there will not be any insults or violence at the ceremony. In addition, he requested that companies get in touch with their respective managers for advertisement and vending at the location. Stonebwoy has not yet answered the challenge.
Meanwhile, both acts have triumphantly taken their flagship annual shows to the Accra Sports Stadium; Shatta Wale did it in December 2022, and Stonebwoy's happened in December 2023.
The two Reggae/Dancehall stars headlined the Asaase Radio Sound Clash in 2020.
A year prior, when Shatta Wale and his crew rushed the Ghana Music Awards 2019 stage, Stonebwoy revealed a gun in self-defence, as he accepted his fifth Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year award.
Ghana goes to the polls on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
