GTA highlights cleanliness, safety and professionalism
The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting clean, safe, and welcoming cities as a foundation for sustainable tourism development, particularly during the festive season.
The issues were highlighted during an appearance on Public Concern, a current affairs programme aired on GTV, where the GTA addressed concerns affecting both Ghanaians and foreign visitors.
Discussions focused on urban cleanliness, public safety, service quality, and professionalism across the tourism value chain as Ghana prepares for increased visitor activity in the festive period.
Speaking at the programme, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr Gilbert Aggrey, emphasised that tourism goes beyond entertainment and leisure.
“Tourism is not just entertainment; it is economic empowerment. It creates jobs, supports local businesses, and strengthens national development,” he said.
Mr Aggrey noted that the success of tourism depends heavily on responsibility, safety, and civic pride, stressing that destinations thrive when citizens, businesses, and institutions work together to protect public spaces and uphold service standards.
He urged all stakeholders — including city authorities, hospitality operators, transport providers, and the general public — to play their part in keeping Ghana’s cities clean, orderly, and secure, especially as the country positions itself as a leading festive destination.
The engagement forms part of the GTA’s broader campaign to enhance visitor experience under the “December in GH – The Black Star Experience”, which seeks to showcase Ghana as a vibrant, safe, and culturally rich destination.
The Authority concluded with a call to action for collective responsibility, noting that safeguarding Ghana’s tourism image is essential for community development, economic growth, and national pride.
