334,000 Ghanaians living with HIV
News
Authorities at the National AIDS Control Programme, have revealed that 334,000 Ghanaians are living with HIV in Ghana.
Dr Rapheal Adu-Gyamfi, a Programme Officer in the Clinical Care Unit of National AIDS Control Programme, said on the Ghana Yensom show on Accra 100.5FM on Friday, 5 July 2019 that in 2018, there were 19,931 new cases of HIV recorded.
Also, there were 14,181 HIV/AIDS-related deaths in the same period, he said.
Dr Adu-Gyamfi further indicated that the Commission is disturbed with the number of people who are living with HIV but are unaware.
He encouraged Ghanaians to go for routine medical checks to know their status.
“What is worrying has to do with the people living with the virus but are unaware. Because the virus has not graduated into AIDS, they do not feel anything and these people are likely to spread the disease to others,” he told show host Kwabena Prah Jnr (The Don).
“This is super dangerous,” he said.
