The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has directed the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Grid Company Limited to step aside pending investigations into a fire outbreak at the Akosombo power control centre.

The incident, which has contributed to recent power outages in parts of the country, is currently under investigation as authorities seek to determine its cause and assess the extent of damage to critical infrastructure.

In a related development, there has been a major shake-up in the leadership of the Electricity Company of Ghana in the Ashanti Region.

While details of the changes remain limited, the move is seen as part of broader efforts to address ongoing challenges in electricity distribution and improve service delivery.

Meanwhile, the Minister is scheduled to hold a major press briefing at 2:00 p.m. on Monday to provide updates on the recent power disruptions and outline measures being taken to stabilize the national grid.

Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, confirmed the developments, signaling government’s commitment to transparency and swift action in resolving the situation.

The anticipated briefing is expected to shed more light on both the Akosombo incident and the leadership changes within ECG, as well as the broader outlook for Ghana’s energy sector.
