August 4 is not a holiday, Interior Ministry says

News
Interior Minister Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka

Monday, August 4, 2025, will not be observed as a statutory public holiday, the Ministry of the Interior has clarified.

This was noted in a statement issued today, Thursday, July 31.

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo introduced August 4 as Founders' Day to mark the formation of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC), a historic moment some believe was fundamental in Ghana’s journey to independence.

However, a new bill passed by Parliament, with a majority National Democratic Congress (NDC) side, has reinstated the birthday of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's original Prime Minister and President who is believe by many to be the deliverer of the nation's independence, September 21, as Founders' Day. This took place in June.

Therefore, work and public activity will not be suspended on Monday, the Interior Ministry has urged the general public and institutions to note.
