Bernard Mornah dismisses extradition claims over Ofori-Atta’s alleged US detention
Leader of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, has rejected claims linking the reported detention of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta in the United States to an extradition request by the Ghanaian government.
Speaking to Class News at the protest grounds near the US Embassy in Cantonments, Mr Mornah said information available to his group suggests the situation is purely an immigration matter.
According to him, Mr Ofori-Atta was allegedly detained by US immigration authorities after it was determined that he was no longer permitted to move freely within the country while his residency application is under review.
Mr Mornah’s comments come amid growing public debate following reports that US authorities had begun processes that could potentially lead to the former minister’s extradition.
The speculation has intensified as Mr Ofori-Atta is also reported to be preparing for a virtual court hearing in the coming weeks.
The issue has sparked widespread discussion in political and legal circles, with calls for clarity from both Ghanaian and U.S. authorities as details surrounding the former finance minister’s situation continue to emerge.
