No approval for cement price hike, GSA clarifies

The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has refuted claims circulating that the cost of cement will go up by GH¢6 starting Monday, January 19, 2026.

In an official announcement, the Authority stated that it has not sanctioned any increase in cement prices, stressing that no such approval has come from the Cement Manufacturing Development Committee either.

According to the GSA, the information being shared about an imminent price hike is inaccurate. It explained that the committee responsible for matters relating to cement production and pricing, of which the Authority is a member, has taken no decision to revise prices.

The GSA cautioned the general public against relying on unconfirmed reports, noting that false information could lead to unwarranted tension and instability within the market.

Consumers, traders, and industry players were therefore encouraged to depend solely on verified updates released through the Authority’s official platforms.

The clarification was endorsed by the Director-General of the Ghana Standards Authority, Professor George Agyei.
