The Founder and Chairman of Class Media Group (CMG), Alhaji Seidu Agongo, has applauded President John Dramani Mahama for the swift action taken against officers of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) implicated in the assault of a CMG journalist, Samuel Addo, at the Kasoa New Market.

In a statement, Alhaji Agongo welcomed confirmation that the officers involved had been interdicted, describing the move as a strong signal of the government’s commitment to press freedom, accountability, and professionalism within the country’s security services.

“I, on behalf of the Class Media Group, applaud President John Dramani Mahama for confirming that the culprits – officers of the Ghana National Fire Service – responsible for assaulting our work colleague and journalist, Samuel Addo at the Kasoa New Market have been interdicted,” the statement said.

He described the incident as “despicable and unacceptable,” stressing that the matter goes beyond the assault of a single journalist and touches on the broader issue of protecting democratic institutions and the reputation of the GNFS.

“This is not just about one journalist; it is about safeguarding the integrity of our institutions and the reputation of the Ghana National Fire Service,” Alhaji Agongo stated.

The CMG Chairman expressed confidence that the government and relevant investigative bodies will act decisively to ensure justice is served and meaningful reforms are implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future.

He further assured that CMG was prepared to cooperate fully with authorities through dialogue, advocacy, and reform-oriented initiatives aimed at improving journalist safety and strengthening public confidence in the security services.

“The Class Media Group and I stand ready to support this process in any way possible through dialogue, advocacy, and initiatives that guarantee sustainable reforms for the safety of journalists and the credibility of our security services,” the statement added.

Alhaji Agongo concluded by calling on all stakeholders to work collectively to protect Ghana’s democratic gains and uphold the principles of press freedom and accountability.
