Prez. Mahama hands over 100 pickups to boost police operations
President John Dramani Mahama has presented 100 pickup trucks to the Ghana Police Service (GPS) as part of efforts to boost security operations and improve public safety nationwide.
The vehicles form the first tranche of a larger consignment planned for the Police Service. Speaking at the ceremony held at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Thursday, January 8, President Mahama said the pickups are essential working equipment rather than symbolic gifts, intended to enhance the operational capacity of the Service.
He explained that the vehicles will support effective patrols, shorten emergency response times, improve police presence, and enable officers to access remote and previously underserved areas across the country.
Put simply, the President noted, the pickups will help officers reach locations of concern more quickly and with greater safety.
The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, expressed gratitude to the President on behalf of the Service and pledged that the vehicles would be properly maintained and used for their intended purpose.
He assured that the Police Service remains dedicated to protecting the equipment, deploying it responsibly, and utilising it consistently to promote peace, safety and national stability.
IGP Yohuno also reaffirmed the commitment of the Ghana Police Service to national progress and institutional reform, stating that the Service will continue to play its role in upholding the law, maintaining discipline and defending the security of the country as part of Ghana’s broader development agenda.
