Defence Minister clarifies military recruitment process, says cadets were processed under previous gov't

Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has clarified recent developments surrounding the training of Officer Cadets, stating that those currently undergoing training were selected under the previous administration.
Addressing public concerns and speculation about the transparency of recent military enlistments, Dr. Boamah revealed that the Ministry of Defence, under the current government, only conducted an audit of the existing list to ensure fairness, merit, and compliance with the set recruitment standards.
“We only audited and sanitised the list,” the Minister explained. “Many were disqualified because they had not met the set criteria.”
He emphasised that the government is committed to upholding integrity in the enlistment process and assured the public that the first official recruitment and enlistment advertisement under the current Military High Command will be announced soon.
“This administration is committed to transparency and meritocracy,” Dr. Boamah noted.
“Expect the first batch of enlistment and recruitment advertisement under the current Military High Command in due course.
We’re resetting Ghana.”
The Defence Minister’s remarks come amid heightened public interest in the Armed Forces recruitment process and efforts to promote fairness and equal opportunity in security sector jobs.
The Minister has reiterated his commitment to building a professional and disciplined military that reflects the values of accountability, competence, and national service.
