The Ministry of Defence has officially inaugurated an investigation board to probe the recent crash of a Z-9 helicopter.

The board is chaired by the National Security Coordinator and comprises representatives from the Ghana Air Force and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority’s Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB).

It will also receive advisory support from a team of U.S. Air Force investigators, who are providing technical expertise and assistance.

According to the Ministry, the Board may, when necessary, invite additional experts and institutions — both local and international — to support the inquiry.

A preliminary investigation team was constituted on 6th August 2025, the day of the crash, to gather evidence from the scene.

That team is expected to submit its report to the newly established Board by 25th August 2025.

The Investigation Board has been given a 30-day mandate to complete its work and present its findings.

In a statement signed by Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Acting Minister for Defence, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a thorough, transparent, and credible investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
