The Ministry of Finance has exceeded Ghana’s Affirmative Action target for female representation, with women making up 41 per cent of its workforce, according to Vice President Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang. She disclosed this during a visit to the ministry, where she commended management for the level of female inclusion and encouraged further progress, particularly in appointing more women to leadership positions.

“I also noticed that in your statistics that you have 41% females and I want to congratulate you on that. It means you have even gone beyond the affirmative action and I want to encourage you to do even more,” she said.

The vice president said the achievement demonstrated the Ministry’s commitment to creating opportunities for women within the public service and advancing gender inclusion in the workplace.

She urged the ministry to continue building on the progress by ensuring that women are increasingly represented in decision-making roles.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s comments came during an engagement with the Minister, Deputy Minister and staff of the Ministry of Finance, where she also expressed appreciation for the contribution of public servants in supporting government’s work.

She noted that while the country continued to face economic challenges, government institutions must remain focused on delivering policies that improve the lives of citizens.

The vice president also highlighted the importance of initiatives aimed at supporting women economically, including the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank.

She said the bank would provide financial support for women, especially those who are unable to access traditional credit facilities because of collateral requirements.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang said the GH¢450 million allocation towards the initiative reflected government’s commitment to promoting inclusive economic growth and expanding opportunities for women across the country.
