The Mayor of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly, Justice George Arthur, has expressed deep frustrations over the continued loss of lives in the metropolis caused by floods saying the assembly is battling the same deadly issues that claimed lives last year.

Speaking on Accra FM’s Ghana Yensom’s morning show, he also expressed his worry over the recurrent construction of weak buildings and subsequent collapses.

"Last year alone three people died, and we had about ten to fifteen buildings collapse naturally," the mayor said during the interview. 

He stressed: "This year, six people died because of this flood."

He urged the residents to take responsibility for their actions.

"Government cannot do it alone. If you see a drain blocked, clear it. Our lives depend on it," he said.

"We don’t want to be here next year saying the same thing. We must act now," he concluded.
