The Ghana Chamber of Mines has expressed sympathy to individuals, families and communities affected by the floods that struck parts of the country on June 29, pledging to support relief efforts for victims.

In a statement issued on July 7, the Chamber described the loss of lives, destruction of homes and businesses, displacement of families and damage to public infrastructure as deeply distressing.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has suffered as a result of this tragic disaster," the statement said.

The Chamber commended the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Police Service, health workers, volunteers and other first responders for their efforts in rescuing affected persons and providing emergency assistance.

It noted that, following the Akosombo Dam spillage in 2023, the Chamber and its member companies supported affected communities, adding that they were once again mobilising relief items for victims of the June 29 floods.

"The Chamber stands with all affected families during this difficult period. We are working with our member companies to provide practical support that will help bring relief, comfort and hope to those affected," Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Ing. Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, said.

The Chamber also urged residents of affected communities to observe good hygiene and sanitation practices, including ensuring access to safe drinking water, proper waste disposal and seeking prompt medical attention where necessary to help prevent outbreaks of waterborne and other communicable diseases.

It reaffirmed the mining industry's commitment to supporting national development and standing with communities during times of crisis.

"To all affected families, we say: you are not alone. The Ghana Chamber of Mines stands with you and remains committed to supporting national relief and recovery efforts," the statement added.
