Ghanaians to see temporary power outage on July 13 as ENI conducts maintenance
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Mr John Abdulai Jinapor, has announced that Ghanaians should expect temporary power interruptions lasting between 4 to 6 hours on Sunday, July 13, 2025, due to scheduled maintenance by the energy company ENI.
The announcement was made during the groundbreaking ceremony for the reconstruction of the 161kV Anwomaso to Kumasi Transmission Line — a key infrastructure project aimed at enhancing power transmission in the Ashanti Region.
According to the Minister, ENI will temporarily shut off a key gas valve to carry out essential maintenance works.
The exercise is expected to boost gas production to approximately 270 million standard cubic feet per day (mm scf), a move that will significantly enhance the country's energy supply in the long term.
“This temporary shutdown is a necessary inconvenience,” Mr. Jinapor stated.
“It is a strategic intervention to improve the capacity and reliability of our power systems going forward.”
He appealed to the public for patience and cooperation, assuring Ghanaians that measures are being taken to reduce the impact of the outage on homes and businesses.
“While we regret the inconvenience, this maintenance work is part of a broader effort to stabilise and strengthen the energy sector.
The benefits will be felt in the form of more reliable and efficient power delivery in the months ahead,” he added.
The increased gas output following the maintenance is expected to enhance power generation capacity, reduce outages, and support Ghana’s push toward a more resilient and sustainable energy future, he concluded.
