Communication Minister Samuel Nartey ‘Dzata’ George has imposed a statutory fine of GH¢10,000 per day on MultiChoice Ghana (DStv).

The sanction took effect today, Friday, August 15, 2025, following the company's failure to submit critical pricing data requested, under the Electronic Communications Act (ECA).

Requested by the National Communication Authority (NCA), the data pricing is necessary for deliberations aimed at reducing subscription fees for Ghanaian users, and must include a detailed breakdown of bouquet prices, tax components, and comparisons with at least six other African markets.

“Per the Electronic Communications Act, failure to produce information requested by the Regulator attracts a GHS10,000 daily fine,” Sam George wrote on X.

“In good faith, I waived the fine from the 5th till yesterday [the 14th] when I met the management again and they still had not submitted the requested information.”

“I remain committed to ensuring that the best deal is secured for the Ghanaian people,” he added, finishing with a statement on his intention, “For God and Country.”

The Sam George has assured that after an objective review of the pricing data, if it was proven that taxes were foundational to the high subscription fees, he would push for tax reliefs.

“If not, we expect DStv to comply with our directive to make subscriptions more affordable,” he emphasised in his meeting with DStv executives.

In the absence of a price reduction agreement by September 6, the communication ministry warned DStv’s operating licence could be suspended.
