Government to boost public and private transport with new high-capacity buses – Veep
Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has reiterated the government’s commitment to modernising and expanding transport services to enhance accessibility and address challenges faced by commuters.
Her remarks come amid rising concerns over a shortage of commercial vehicles, which has contributed to overcrowding and increased fare exploitation.
Speaking at a meeting with transport sector stakeholders on Friday, January 16, the Vice President highlighted the government’s resolve to provide a smooth, efficient, and dependable transport system.
She stressed that the administration is prioritising affordability and safety for passengers while strengthening both public and private transport operations. The Vice President assured stakeholders that support will be provided to transport operators through the introduction of new high-capacity buses.
“His Excellency has directed me to assure all of you that Metro Mass, Ayalolo, and private operators will receive backing with new high-occupancy buses to expand services in the medium term,” she said.
She also noted that efforts are underway to accelerate the repair of broken-down buses to get more vehicles back on the roads as quickly as possible.
The Vice President urged transport operators to maintain high standards of service, treating commuters with respect and dignity while delivering safe and reliable transportation.
