Government working to improve public transport across Ghana – Metro Mass MD assures
The Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit Limited, Kale Cesar ESQ, has assured Ghanaians that the government is taking deliberate steps to improve public transportation across the country and ease the challenges commuters face, particularly during peak hours.
Speaking on the Class Morning Show on Thursday, July 9, 2026, Mr Cesar acknowledged the longstanding challenges confronting Ghana's public transport system but expressed confidence that significant improvements are on the way.
"Public transport in Ghana hasn't been the best as we should all know. But I can assure you that government is doing all that it can to ensure that it will boost it and ensure that it will bring some relief to the public," he said.
Mr Cesar explained that despite government efforts, the state's involvement in the public transport sector remains relatively limited.
"Government's intervention in public transport is not up to 50 percent," he noted, underscoring the need for increased investment and collaboration to expand public transport services.
Responding to concerns over the shortage of commercial buses on many routes, especially during rush hours, the Metro Mass Transit boss disclosed that plans are underway to deploy more intra-city buses across the country.
"I can assure Ghanaians that in no time, a lot of the intra buses will come and it will not only be in Greater Accra. They will be deployed to the regional capitals and when that happens, I believe it is going to ameliorate the difficult situation," he stated.
His assurance comes amid growing public concern over the increasing difficulty commuters face in accessing commercial transport, particularly in major cities where long waiting times and overcrowding have become common during peak periods.
The planned deployment of additional buses is expected to strengthen public transport services, reduce commuter inconvenience, and improve mobility in both the Greater Accra Region and other regional capitals across the country.
