The J.E.A. Mills Memorial Heritage has announced a series of scheduled activities to mark the 14th anniversary of the passing of Ghana's former President, Professor John Evans Atta Mills. The announcement was made during a press conference held at the International Press Centre on Wednesday, 15th July 2026.

President John Evans Atta Mills, the third President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana, passed away on 24th July 2012 at 1:40 p.m.. He remains the only Ghanaian Head of State to have died whilst in office.

The J.E.A. Mills Memorial Heritage, incorporated on 14th October 2021 and launched on 1st February 2022, is a non-partisan, independent, charitable organisation established to preserve his legacy and promote democratic values and human development.

The commemorative events outlined by the Heritage include:

1. Wednesday, 22nd July 2026 (2 PM) 

The 14th Anniversary Commemorative Lecture will be held at the Kofi Ohene Konadu Auditorium (the UPSA Auditorium) in Madina-Accra. The lecture, titled "President John Evans Atta Mills, Fourteen Years On," will be delivered by Guest Speaker Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, a renowned cardiothoracic surgeon and former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation. The event will be chaired by Hon. Hanna Serwah Tetteh, UN Under-Secretary General and Special Representative for the UN Support Mission in Libya (SRSG-UNSMIL), who is also a former Minister for Foreign Affairs and former Minister for Trade and Industry.

2. Friday, 24th July 2026 (9 AM) 

A Wreath-Laying Ceremony and Memorial Service will take place at Asomdwee Park, located near the Osu Castle. Former President John Dramani Mahama will lay a wreath on behalf of the Republic of Ghana. Additional wreaths will be laid on behalf of the Parliament of Ghana, the late President's widow, Mrs. Ernestina Naadu Mills, his family, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the J.E.A. Mills Memorial Heritage, and the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs.

3. Saturday, 25th July 2026 (9:30 AM) 

The President John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Hockey Tournament will be held at the Theodosia Okoh National Hockey Pitch in Accra.

The organisers have invited members of the public and the media to participate in the upcoming events to honour the memory and legacy of the late President.
