NPP should rebuild, not contest 2028 — Nana Yaa Jantuah

Presidential aide Nana Yaa Jantuah has cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against contesting the 2028 general elections, arguing that the party currently lacks the strength and unity required to mount a serious bid for power.

Speaking on Accra based radio programme, she said the party is still struggling to recover from its defeat in the 2024 polls, with unresolved internal issues continuing to undermine its cohesion and effectiveness.

According to Nana Yaa Jantuah, the most prudent path for the NPP at this point is to channel its energy into restructuring and strengthening its internal systems rather than fielding a presidential candidate.

She maintained that the party’s recent electoral loss has left deep cracks that are yet to heal, making it difficult for the leadership to fully reorganize and refocus. In her view, the opposition would be better served by concentrating on parliamentary contests while working to rebuild confidence within its ranks.

She also compared the NPP’s situation to what she described as signs of economic recovery under President John Dramani Mahama, highlighting reductions in fuel prices as evidence of positive change. She shared that she had recently purchased fuel at a relatively lower cost, which she said reflects easing economic pressures.

Nana Yaa Jantuah further commended President Mahama’s leadership, noting that his receipt of the Kwame Nkrumah Leadership Award in West Africa signals increasing regional acknowledgment of his governance.

She concluded that, given the perceived economic improvements and the administration’s growing recognition, the NPP would face an uphill task in 2028, particularly as many Ghanaians continue to view the party as fractured and unstable.
