Nima clash an ‘eyesore’ – Chief Imam urges Muslim youth to respect human life
Ghana’s National Chief Imam, Shiekh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, has condemned the sporadic shooting and violent incident that happened at Nima and Mamobi on Tuesday, 18 January 2022, in the Greater Accra Region.
The clash, which was between two rival gangs, resulted in the injury of some persons within the popular Muslim community.
The groups, led by one Kumordzi, alias Ibrahim Hussein and Bombom, alias Ali Awudu, went all out on the streets of Nima.
Seven people have so far been arrested; five in police custody and two on admission under police guard.
The Chief Imam’s spokesperson, Shiekh Aremeyaw Shaibu, said the cleric condemns the incident in no uncertain terms and described it as an “eyesore” that must not be tolerated.
He said this when he met all the 16 Regional Chief Imams at his residence at Fadama, which brought together some prominent people within the Muslim community.
According to the National Chief Imam, it is about time Muslim youth got something better to do for themselves rather than being henchmen.
He said the youth must be told to shun all violence to help uphold the image of Islam.
He said such violence is wrong and worrying.
The Chief Imam called on the youth in the area and beyond to respect the sanctity of human life.
He reminded the youth that Islam brings hope to the world while urging them to eschew anything that is evil.
“Violence is not in accordance with the teachings of Islam,” he noted.
