Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang on Friday, July 11, represented President John Dramani Mahama at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected National Executives of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), urging them to uphold professionalism and become a beacon of truth in an era plagued by misinformation.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice President underscored the indispensable role of journalism in sustaining democracy and building an informed citizenry.

She called on the new GJA leadership to unite the Association and renew its commitment to integrity and ethical standards.

“At a time when misinformation is rampant and public trust is often strained, the GJA must rise as the standard-bearer — a reliable source of truth that supports national development and informs sound policy decisions,” she emphasised.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang further encouraged the executives to embrace the weight of legacy, urging them to lead in ways that will uplift the Association, empower journalists across the country, and shape a resilient and responsible media for Ghana's future.
