Drama in court as accused businesswoman fires lawyer in open court

There was unexpected courtroom drama on Thursday during ongoing proceedings involving the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau and others, when Mildred Donkor, the third accused person in the high-profile case, publicly dismissed her legal counsel in open court.
Miss Donkor, a business associate of the former security chief, stunned the courtroom when she abruptly announced her decision to disengage her lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, who is also representing one of her co-accused.
“My Lord, I wish to take a separate lawyer, please,” she stated clearly before the presiding judge, drawing gasps from some in attendance.
The move has sparked speculation about possible disagreements between the accused and her legal team or a strategic shift in her defense approach.
Ms Donkor's decision could signal a divergence of interests among the accused persons as the case progresses.
The former Director-General and his associates, including Donkor, are facing multiple charges relating to alleged financial misconduct and abuse of office during his tenure.
The judge adjourned the hearing to allow Donkor to secure new legal representation, with proceedings set to resume next week.
The case continues to attract widespread public attention due to the prominence of the individuals involved and the sensitive nature of the allegations.
