Ken Ofori-Atta dodges OSP appointment, opts to cooperate virtually
Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will not appear before the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) today as initially scheduled, following a sudden deterioration in his health, sources close to him have confirmed.
According to his legal team, Mr. Ofori-Atta is currently unwell and undergoing medical treatment, with scheduled surgical procedures.
Medical documentation detailing his condition has been formally submitted to both the OSP and the Human Rights Court.
The development comes amid growing speculation about whether Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng will proceed with plans to re-declare Mr. Ofori-Atta a wanted person should he fail to honour the appointment.
A statement earlier issued by the OSP hinted that such a move could be imminent.
Mr. Ofori-Atta is currently pursuing legal action at the Human Rights Court to challenge his previous designation as a wanted person by the OSP.
The court is set to rule on the matter on June 18, 2025.
In a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on May 28, the OSP confirmed the adjournment:
“The Human Rights Court has adjourned to 18 June 2025 for a ruling on a motion filed by former Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta, seeking to restrain the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) from declaring him wanted, among other reliefs.”
As part of his legal challenge, Mr. Ofori-Atta is also asking the court to compel the OSP to remove previous “wanted” notices from its social media platforms.
In the meantime, sources indicate that Mr. Ofori-Atta has offered to participate in the OSP’s ongoing investigation remotely. His legal team has proposed that a Cautioned Statement be taken via virtual means, in accordance with provisions of the Electronic Transactions Act, while he undergoes medical care.
The OSP has yet to issue any updated statement on how it intends to proceed following the latest development.
